Saccharomyces cerevisiae is naturally present on grape skin, from which various strains can be isolated. Hence, the idea of selecting our strain in cooperation with a company experienced in the research and selection of strains arose.
Chemical and physical analysis to identify the characteristics of the strains, focusing on the profile of the ideal strain.
The selection of eight strains that were genetically characterized and subsequently screened for production efficiency, stability, and efficacy.
To evaluate these, several pilot-scale production tests and in vitro rumen fermentation analyses were carried out. We selected the best strain in terms of in vitro results, production efficiency, stability, and efficacy.
The uniqueness of the strain was genetically demonstrated, and our selected live yeast strain was deposited in a culture collection. A unique code was assigned to our strain to identify it as Saccharomyces cerevisiae DBVPG 48 SF.
Several analyses were conducted to demonstrate the safety and characteristics of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae DBVPG 48 SF strain, as well as its compliance with the strict requirements set by EFSA and the European Community. Various in vivo trials were carried out at independent institutions (research centres, universities, and farms) to prove the efficacy of BioCell in improving animal performance.
All trials demonstrated the efficacy of BioCell in ruminants, pigs, and horses.
At the end of 2023, we obtained authorization from the European Commission for BioCell as an additive for animal feed: 4d24 Saccharomyces cerevisiae DBVPG 48 SF.
